San Jose Strong Neighborhoods Initiative
San Jose Redevelopment Agency
San Jose, California January 2002 to February 2002
San Jose is embarking on a new venture by creating inter-departmental staff teams who will work closely with
neighborhood advisory groups to develop plans for enhancing many of the city’s older neighborhoods. In the first
phase, plans were developed for ten individual neighborhoods. While different design teams were retained to work
with the various neighborhoods, Strategic Economics was retained to provide economic support for all ten plans.
The firm developed a series of indicators comparing each neighborhood’s economic and demographic conditions
to the city as a whole, in addition to evaluating real estate market trends and conditions. Strategic Economics
also identified key development opportunity sites in the neighborhoods and made strategic recommendations as
to what type of development projects should be considered for these sites.
