Main Street Silicon Valley

Strategic Economics provided strategic and analytical assistance to Joint Venture Silicon Valley to complete a
study of the El Camino Real/Monterey Highway Corridor that serves as Silicon Valley's "Main Street," impacting
20 jurisdictions. The study, funded by the James Irvine Foundation, identified common concerns and objectives
that revolve around transforming El Camino Real/Monterey Highway from a wide, un-landscaped, arterial street into
an attractive boulevard with opportunities for increased transit and more intensive land uses. Strategic Economics
conducted the economic and historical analyses for this review, and completed four case studies that highlight
best practices in mixed-use development, parcel assembly, revitalization and transit-oriented development.
Strategic Economics also produced a generalized model for developing place-enhancing retail at nodes along the
Corridor. Finally, SE helped assemble the information and analysis into a regional vision with clear guidelines for
communities wishing to enhance the Corridor as a local and regional asset.
