Mason Austin is an Associate at Strategic Economics. In conjunction with Reconnecting America, he is currently writing an Action Guide to help community groups to design and implement strategies for fostering mixed-income neighborhoods near transit. He is also involved in a Regional Transportation Study for the Fresno Council of Governments.
While pursuing his Master of City Planning, Mr. Austin worked for the Center for Community Innovation, conducting research and providing technical assistance on Transit Oriented Development and affordable housing under the auspices of the Great Communities Collaborative. In addition, he interned at Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates, where he helped to formulate transportation demand management and parking plans. Prior to graduate school, he consulted to community-based affordable housing developers at Fairmount Ventures, Inc. in Philadelphia and interned at the Philadelphia Association of Community Development Corporations.
Mr. Austin received his Master of City Planning from the University of California, Berkeley where he focused his studies on housing and community development planning, and especially its relationship to transportation planning. His culminating Client Report evaluated the potential for housing dispersal policies as a strategy for addressing urban poverty. He also has a Bachelor of Arts from Haverford College, where he double-majored in The Growth and Structure of Cities and Psychology.
